One of Michigan State University’s most significant new campus spaces is ready for its debut, and students will get a first peek.

On April 15, MSU is hosting a student-focused open house for the new Student Recreation and Wellness Center, inviting Spartans to explore the facility.

The open house comes ahead of the center’s grand opening scheduled for the fall. While the center will soon be open to MSU employees who pay for membership, the open house event is intentionally focused on students, who helped pay for the project through their recreation fees. Faculty and staff are invited to help by encouraging students to attend and learn more about the multitude of amenities and opportunities inside.

At nearly 293,000 square feet, the new recreation center represents a significant investment in student well-being. Once completed, the facility will include multi-activity courts, an indoor track, strength and fitness spaces, a climbing wall, a turf arena and a 50-meter pool.

More than an after-school diversion, the space reflects a broader commitment to student success.

Research at MSU has shown that participation in recreational sports is linked to improved retention and academic progress, underscoring the critical role that wellness and connection play in helping students thrive.
