Despite growing up in Ann Arbor—surrounded by maize and blue—I always knew I was destined to be a Spartan. My hometown may be just an hour from East Lansing, but the rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State can make it feel like a world apart. My family is split: my mom’s side roots for Michigan, while my dad’s side proudly supports MSU. Even so, I always repped green and white with pride and knew I’d eventually call MSU home.
Big-Time Sports and Unforgettable Moments
One of the main reasons I was drawn to Michigan State was its electric sports culture. My family and I regularly attended football and basketball games, so securing student tickets and Izzone seats was a no-brainer. Being part of one of the best student sections in the country has been an experience like no other.
Some of my favorite memories include the 2021 MSU vs. UM football game during my freshman year—especially because we won. Watching the basketball team make exciting runs in March Madness each season was equally unforgettable. The energy inside the Breslin Center is unlike anything else, especially after a dunk or clutch three-pointer. There’s a reason many call MSU one of the toughest places in the country for opposing teams to play.
From East Lansing to Europe
Studying abroad in Rome and Cannes was one of the most transformative experiences of my time at MSU. Spending six weeks overseas, taking courses at an international university, and exploring historic cities provided me with an unmatched perspective. In between classes, we immersed ourselves in Italian culture, history and food, while weekends were filled with travel and adventure.
The highlight of the trip was attending the Cannes Lions Festival, a global gathering of advertising professionals. It was an extraordinary opportunity to network with industry leaders, attend world-class seminars, and experience exclusive events. One memorable evening included a private performance by Ludacris, where I also connected with MSU alumni who offered valuable career advice. Later that night, I met NBA legend Carmelo Anthony—snapped a photo and even had a quick conversation.
A Spartan Journey to Remember
From being a Spartan in the heart of Wolverine country to cheering in the Izzone and exploring Europe, my MSU journey has been nothing short of incredible. The opportunities, friendships and lifelong memories I’ve made will stay with me long after graduation.
Go Green!
