MSU programs celebrate another year of national rankings

U.S. News and World Report released the 2022 edition of its Best Colleges ranking, and Michigan State University has been recognized with several top programs in the nation.

“Michigan State’s rankings reflect the comprehensive Spartan experience — from what students receive upon entering the classroom to the opportunities they have to get involved in communities around campus and around the world,” said MSU President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. “I’m pleased to see MSU programs earning national recognition to reinforce academic excellence across a breadth of areas of studies.”

For the 11th consecutive year, MSU’s undergraduate supply chain management program — housed within the Eli Broad College of Business — ranks No. 1 among such programs across the country’s public and private universities. The Broad College’s graduate supply chain program also ranks as the nation’s top program — a title it has held since besting Massachusetts Institute of Technology five years ago.

“To be recognized among the top business schools is a testament to the Broad College’s strengths across all of the major business disciplines, our faculty’s thought leadership and our commitment to deliver an exceptional student experience,” said Sanjay Gupta, Eli and Edythe L. Broad Dean of the Broad College.

The Broad College of Business ranks No. 13 among public universities and No. 23 among all national institutions for its overall undergraduate business program — an improvement of one position year-over-year.

Among public universities, U.S. News ranks the following MSU undergraduate programs in the nation’s top 20:

  •       No.1: Supply Chain Management
  •       No. 3: Production and operations
  •       No. 6: Agricultural Engineering
  •       No. 9: Management
  •       No. 10: International business
  •       No. 13: Management Information Systems
  •       No. 13: Accounting
  •       No. 13: Undergraduate business
  •       No. 18: Marketing

In its third year of ranking student engagement categories, MSU again ranked favorably in three categories across all four-year public institutions:

  •       No. 4 for Learning communities – No. 1 among publics
  •       No. 11 for Study abroad – No. 1 among publics
  •       No. 13 for Service learning – No. 2 among publics

Additionally, and for the fifth straight year, MSU improved on the six-year graduation rate — the second heaviest-weighted variable — and is now at a record 82%.

“Academic programs at Michigan State are excellent and it is exciting to see so many earn national recognition,” said MSU Provost Teresa K. Woodruff, Ph.D. “Continuing improvements in graduation rates reflect the efforts of our faculty and academic staff and the hard work of students to achieve their academic goals, as well as the strengths of MSU’s student success efforts.”
